Shop - Green Teas - Japanese Green Tea
Japanese green tea is characterised by a fresh, tart flavour, and a bright, grassy-green colour.
The leaves used to make Japanese green tea are traditionally steamed to stop the fermentation process. Then, they are dried and rolled to remove moisture and break down the leaf cells. The result is a tea that is light, refreshing and full of goodness.
Japanese green tea forms an important part of Japanese culture. The tea ceremony, with matcha tea at its heart, offers a chance for silent contemplation and spiritual refreshment. Not only this, but it is an important social activity - providing a way to build new relationships, and strengthen existing ones.
Sencha, with its delicately sweet flavour, is among the most popular green teas in Japan. It is also delicious as a flavoured green tea, as evidenced by our Ronnefeldt Morgentau (Morning Dew). Bancha is also a well-liked green tea, drunk on a daily basis by many in Japan. And then there is gyokuro: an exquisite, high-grade tea of the same origins as matcha - and just as ideal for a special occasion.
